Greenhill Legend Inducted Into Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Richard “Dick” Hall for being inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame.

On March 7, Richard “Dick” Hall, Greenhill Legend, was inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame. The honor recognizes excellence, legacy, and the profound impact of Black athletes whose contributions have shaped sports across Texas.

Hall’s journey in soccer began in England, where he played for Weymouth FC. When his professional contract ended in 1970, he moved to the United States and signed with the Dallas Tornado of the North American Soccer League. During his time on the field, he helped lead the club to its first and only NASL championship in 1971 and earned four caps for the U.S. national team before retiring in 1976.

Also in 1970, Hall joined Greenhill as the boys soccer coach and quickly started building a unified, competitive program from Middle School through varsity. His efforts paid off: in the 1981-1982 season, Greenhill captured its first SPC Championship in boys soccer, kicking off a remarkable run of seven consecutive titles.

Hall was appointed Greenhill’s Athletic Director in 1980, a notable milestone at a time when most conference leadership positions were held by football coaches. He was committed to elevating all sports equally and became a strong advocate for expanding and strengthening girls’ athletics at Greenhill and within the SPC. He continued coaching boys soccer until 2010, finishing his career with more than 500 wins and 15 SPC championships.

Across his decades at Greenhill, Hall championed equity in athletics, helped introduce modern approaches to player development, and set a standard of professionalism that continues to influence the program today.

Please join us in congratulating Hall on this well‑deserved honor. His legacy continues to inspire generations.
